Together with the client, we set out to create a bold new vision for the house, including a reconfiguration of the existing layout and a series of contemporary new extensions to the rear in order to give the house a better flow and unlock its full potential.

This involved opening up the existing ground floor and adding a one and a half storey box to the western flank of the house, as well as an additional extension to the main bedroom wing linked via new delicately glazed infill, and incorporate a lounge and dining space.

Working with the existing fabric of the house, our proposal opens up some of the walls surrounding the current staircase, inviting glimpse views out to the rear upon entering the house. Ancillary spaces including W.C, utility, pantry and boot room have strategically been consolidated to the front corner of the house.

The glazed rear middle section comprises large sliding doors that open up to the upper terrace. The kitchen has been carefully positioned to become the hub of the home, sited in the western corner, having dual aspect of the lounge and dining space whilst also dramatically over-looking down into the newly created sung area.

To maximise impact, the snug area’s finish floor level is set down half a storey to create a generous ceiling height and emphasise views from the brow of the Ridge. Glass-to-glass corners allow for uninterrupted views and is punctuated with a ‘floating’ fire place, which is the centrepiece of the room.
