 ARCHITECTURAL TECHNOLOGIST

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and highly-motivated Architectural Technologist to join our growing practice.

You will have an eye for detail and a passion for innovative design solutions, paired with an enthusiasm for the latest building materials and technologies.

Experience in both residential and commercial sectors is preferred, with the ability to produce a range of drawings from feasibility stages, with the emphasis on producing full construction details and specifications.

A platform of opportunity will be given to the chosen candidate, with an accelerated path to a senior position. You will have the unique position to lead on the delivery-side of projects, with a view to further expanding Format and help build a small team of highly-skilled designers as the practice continues to grow.


Role and Responsibilities:

  • To have an enthusiastic and creative attitude to the delivery of construction projects
  • Production of technical drawings, details and specifications
  • Carry out studies and design proposals for review
  • To have an enthusiastic and creative attitude to the delivery of construction projects
  • Checking technical compliance throughout RIBA Work Stages
  • Work closely with clients/project team to understand goals and to develop and support technical solutions
  • Ensure design proposals conform to the latest building regulations and technical standards
  • Managing building regulations/tender packs
  • Inspection of building work and it’s quality on site
Experience and Skills Required:
  • ACIAT or MCIAT member
  • Strong technical design experience required
  • Ability to work well in a team and autonomously
  • Private practice and residential experience
  • Ability to express ideas effectively, orally, graphically and in writing
  • Knowledge of UK best practice standards - especially building regulations

 ARCHITECT ( 3 years+)

We want an experienced and highly-ambitious Architect to join our studio, who wants to grasp working on an existing pipeline of exciting work.

In keeping with the Format brand, you will bring energy to the process and have a passion for design-led schemes across the RIBA Work Stages.

Experience in both residential and commercial sectors is preferred, with the ability to produce a range of drawings from feasibility stages, to technical packages, with the emphasis on the day-to-day running of multiple design projects.

A platform of opportunity will be given to the chosen candidate, working alongside the founding director, with an accelerated path to an integral senior level.

You will have the unique position to be at the forefront of the business, with a view to further expanding Format and help build a small team of highly-skilled designers as the practice continues to grow.


Role and Responsibilities:

  • To have an enthusiastic and creative attitude throughout the design process
  • Working alongside the founding director to manage the day-to-day running of multiple design projects
  • Ability to produce a full range of drawings, from sketch to design, to a full technically coordinated set
  • Carry out design studies and options for review
  • Checking technical compliance throughout RIBA Work Stages
  • Liaising with clients, design team and contractors
  • Ensure design proposals conform to the latest building regulations and technical standards
  • Managing planning applications, as well as building regulations/tender packs and the Inspection of building work and it’s quality on site

Experience and Skills Required:

  • Strong design and organisational attributes
  • ARB/RIBA member
  • Project running experience across all RIBA Work Stages
  • Ability to work well in a team and autonomously
  • Private practice and residential experience
  • Ability to express ideas effectively - verbally, graphically and in writing
  • Knowledge of UK best practice standards – including planning policy and building regulations
  • Ambition to want to help further grow the practice
